I have had my students (college level English learners) write resumes using templates and advice from experience and what I find on the web (I used About.com mostly).
The submit their resumes to me, then I review and find different want ads/help wanted offers that might match up. I group the students into interview committees around each job listing (five to six groups for a class of 25-30).
The committees review the resumes they’ve received as applications and then decide on the best candidate.
You can also include writing cover letters to go along with the resumes. Just make sure you hand out the job offers so the students can target their letters specifically.
Great project, can take up to a week to complete, teaches real-world skills that they’ll need to succeed.
