Is there much value to a certified project manager with an MBA, versus a certified project manager with a graduate certificate?

If I had the choice between the certificate or MBA I would pick the MBA. Why? Project managers are a "nice to have" for a business. A project manager will bringing a company revenue in the future but when the economy begins to slow company will begin to shed project manager in favor of positions that will generate them revenue immediately. This means moving to a project manager role will mean more money for you but may also make you vulnerable to market changes. An MBA with an emphasis in project management will give you more options should you become a victim of declining revenue.

There are different ways to manage all your tasks. Some are recurrent, such as paying a bill each month or week, picking up a kid once a week after a scout meeting, etc. Some occurring infrequently, such as a dental appointment, some are one-time, such as going to a funeral, etc. but STILL they need to be entered onto your calendar…

Whether you do this electronically or on a calendar with a pencil (not a pen), write everything in! If you can see it….you can DO IT!

With projects, even your time-management project, you must divide them up into manageable pieces. If you have four weeks to do that project you know that you must be half-way done by two weeks out…so you break the project into four pieces, and give yourself a deadline at the end of each week.

Hi all I appreciate your response, I know about the course duration and other general details but can’t make my mind about university/institution name as all of them seem to be promising. fees is not a bar for me I need to know the best institutions which offer project management courses and are equivalent to full time MBA.

Well I know various fellows who have done BE and than they are doing MBA. I would suggest go for Part-time MBA course it is for 3 yrs and also you can get specialisation in various fields like IT.

Search for it through Google you will get lots of colleges for Part time MBA course

Unlike yourself (I’m sure) most project managers know sweet about construction, let alone architectural design, and often turn out to be the weakest link in the project (although it is a competition between them and the M& E engineers). They tend to engender the blame culture and quite frankly in many cases are another overhead to add to the (already inflated) cost of building today. The biggest failing is not managing the clients’ expectatioins – they are employed by the client and so usually end up telling them what they want to hear. The design team have a duty of care and are bound to tell it how it is.

You seem to have overlooked ‘quality’ in your assessment – any project is a function of time, cost and quality – usually one is at the expense of the others. Maybe you could try some case studies to see how the process works?

I am not aware of anyone using Matlab as a project management tools. There are a lot of better options out there for this, even a basic spreadsheet. You could of course build something like this in Matlab, but that seems like a lot of work to fit a square peg in a round hole.
