Addressing Project Failure

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

This shows ways in which project failure can be addressed at the highest level. We need to know the what’s, why’s and how’s etc with any undertaking…
The first few lines from a poem by Kipling sums this up nicely – ‘I keep six honest serving men, they taught me all I knew, their names are What & Why & When and Where & How & Who’. The spirit of this poem is wrapped up in the Project Initiation Documentation, known as the PID, which will become the main source of management information, and the baseline for the project. The PID essentially becomes a contract between the Project Manager and the Project Board and should hold sufficient detail to encourage the Project Board to take ownership for the project. After all, the Project Board are the ‘owners’ of the project.

What project management methodology is being used for the London 2012 Olympics?

Friday, August 13th, 2010

I am doing a project management course and have to find out which methodology is being used. Would the method be PRINCE2 or DSDM Atern (Agile)? Maybe a mixture of both? Could you give examples of why it would be a certain methodology and not another?

I dont think I am smart enough to answer your question. Sorry :(

PRINCE2 NEED ADVICE—PLS, I am Desperate.?

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Hi,

I am 30 years old and have experience in financial services and outsourced BPO operations. I lost my job some time ago and I am trying to get back into my line of business but have had no luck so far . I am temping since about a year and barely managing to survive.

I am thinking about getting Prince2 certification to increase my job prospects although I have very limited experience in project management. I am sure if I devote some time I will be able to get certified, however I know just getting the certification will not mean that I can be a successful PM.I know I need to gain experience and further knowledge.

Can anyone please guide me on how to go about after getting the certification, what kind of roles can/should I apply for, how to gain experience and eventually get to managing end to end projects ( IT and others ).

I will really be thankful for any advice and for your time,

God Bless.

Prince 2 is a worthwhile qualification to have on your CV – especially Prince 2 Practitioner (as opposed to just Foundation. The Practitioner course can be done in 5 days in a classroom environment or you can do it self study. I found it to be quite easy.

Once qualified, you will probably start as a resource on a project and build up to managing smaller then larger projects.

If you have the chance, try and learn about some project management software – MS Project is a general standard.

Want to get into investment banking-what am i doing wrong?

Monday, April 26th, 2010

I am very interested in becoming an investment banker/portfolio manager/working in hedge funds and other related areas. I understand that there is recession at the moment and these industries are the hardest hit. What can I do to get in? I have a BSc in Business management & IT (achieving first class) and has MSc in finance and accounting with distinction. I also have project management prince2 practitioner (although i don’t think it’s useful in any way for this). Problem is i finished my masters just when the recession started and hasnt been lucky since. I currenlty have a job in an entirely different field and its so frustrating at the moment bcos i feel like im wasting my life away and being seriously underpaid. Any ideas? Also i’m thinking of studying for CFA…will this really help or should i wait till i’m in the field b4 doing it? If you think i should do it, is there enough time to study for the june exam or go for september? Please help

The recession is expected to end within an year. You can finish your CFA by appearing in September examinations and achieve your ambition in 2010.
Best of Luck !!
